Helpful Answers to Common Questions about Your Heating and A/C

Why does my indoor fan run continuously?
Check your thermostat setting and make sure that the fan is set in the “auto” position and not in the “on” position (sometimes the thermostats get bumped accidentally into the wrong position). “Auto” will allow your indoor fan to come on only when called by the thermostat for cooling or heating, depending on the temperature that you’ve preset.
If this is not the case, call Bloomfield Cooling, Heating & Electric for service.

What temperature should I set my thermostat to?
During the cooling season, most homeowners keep their thermostat set between 76-78 degrees. During the heating season, most homeowners keep their thermostat set between 68-72 degrees. Any setting will work, but please keep in mind that varying from these settings will affect your utility bills.

What is a SEER rating?
SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio and is the way of measuring the efficiency of your unit. A good way to think of it is miles per gallon of gasoline in your car. The higher the SEER rating the more energy efficient your unit is.

When should I replace my filters?
The need to replace or clean filters is a function of many variables such as run time, efficiency, size and type. Our service technicians always check the filters during seasonal maintenance, and can better advise you about a schedule upon inspection.
We keep many filters in stock for the units we install and service which you can pick up at our warehouse; just call ahead and we’ll have it ready for you.

Do I save money by closing the registers and doors of the rooms I am not using?
No. Your ductwork is designed to allow for maximum air flow throughout your home. Your unit will actually work harder when there is an obstruction at the register and air cannot flow freely throughout the room.

Why do I need seasonal maintenance on my systems?
Regular seasonal maintenance prevents problems before they start and keeps your home comfort equipment working at its peak. Even the best equipment, if not properly maintained, can cause problems or break down.
