In-Duct Air Filtration Leaves Airborne Allergens in the Dust

Bloomfield Cooling, Heating and Electric Air Filtration SpecialAs trees, plants and flowers start to bloom in North Jersey, so does “allergy season.”

But you don’t have to let allergies ruin your spring (summer or fall). While we can’t control what’s floating around outdoors, we can help keep your indoor air allergen- and pathogen-free with several easy solutions that keep homeowners or office occupants breathing easier.

Typical allergens this time of year are pollen from grass, trees and weeds. But indoors, people may suffer from allergies to dust (and dust mites), pet dander, mold spores, smoke, or VOCs (volatile organic compounds, frequently found in paints, solvents, cleaning products, personal care products, and building materials).

At Bloomfield Cooling, Heating & Electric, we offer several air filtration devices that are easy to install in your HVAC system’s ductwork; these devices do a great job capturing and filtering airborne allergens that cause respiratory and other problems (fatigue, itching, red or watery eyes, headaches). People with compromised immune systems or who are susceptible to illness due to certain pathogens will be pleased to know that these in-duct air filtration units also remove bacteria and viruses from indoor air, protecting occupants from COVID-19, RSV and other respiratory diseases.

In-duct air purifiers
These are three in-duct air purification devices that protect your family from harmful airborne particles and allergens, keeping your indoor air cleaner and fresher.

1 — iWave
You may have seen postcards or signage in restaurants and offices during the COVID-19 pandemic about locations having installed iWave. This device uses proprietary ionization technology that has been proven in laboratory tests to inactivate the SARS-CoV-2 virus (and other airborne pathogens). Viruses, bacteria, and mold pass over the device’s ion generators, triggering the unit’s process to remove hydrogen molecules, which are the pathogens’ energy source; when removed, this causes the toxins to die. Pollen and other allergens are also affected captured and killed off, creating cleaner indoor air. There are no replacement parts to deal with thanks to its self-cleaning design. 2 — REME HALO

This device uses LED technology to provide whole-home air purification by creating and harnessing the sanitizing power of gaseous hydrogen peroxied—similar to how air is cleaned in nature. REME HALO is highly effective at reducing airborne and surface microbials and kills allergens and pollutants as well as viruses and bacteria. It purifies every cubic inch of air that your central air conditioning system reaches in your home or office (it operates when the HVAC fan is on) and does not require any maintenance.

3 — Blue-Tube UV

Blue-Tube UV at Bloomfield Cooling, Heating and Electric

Blue-Tube UV is a germicidal ultraviolet (UV) light that eliminates microbes and odors as air cycles through the system. In addition to improving indoor air quality, it extends your HVAC system’s lifespan and reduces energy and maintenance costs by keeping the coils free of unwanted contaminants. As a germicidal device, the Blue-Tube UV uses low-voltage UV light to sterilize biological contaminants such as mold, germs, and viruses in the air and on your HVAC system’s surfaces.

Additional ways to improve indoor air quality
Make sure to clean your HVAC system’s air filters regularly and replace as needed. When you schedule your routine maintenance (fall and spring), your Bloomfield Cooling, Heating & Electric technician will check and replace filters to keep your indoor air cleaner and keep your system from overworking (clogged filters strain the system’s ability to circulate air properly). We also install Carrier’s highly effective Performance Series electronic air cleaner, which traps airborne particles that are more than 600 times smaller than the point of a pin; and Carrier Infinity® and Bryant Evolution™ whole-home air purifiers that capture and kill airborne mold spores and other toxins as small as .01 microns.
