We’ve written about ductless HVAC systems in the past and we install many of these alternatives for heating and cooling, especially in older homes in which running extensive ductwork is not feasible or for spaces that do not require heating or air conditioning all the time. As an authorized Carrier dealer, Bloomfield Cooling, Heating & Electric now offers Carrier’s ductless hybrid technology.
How ductless hybrid systems work
Also called a ductless crossover solution, this type of system is an innovative, cost-saving HVAC solution that combines the customizable temperature control of a ductless system with your home’s existing ductwork.
The “hybrid” part of this comes from the ductless crossover’s advanced technology, which allows both heat pumps and air handlers to work together without a hitch, providing energy efficiency, cost savings, and comfort. In essence, the units can make an existing furnace and/or central air conditioning system into a hybrid heat system. It uses the ductless heat pump as the primary heating source and the furnace as a backup in extremely cold weather when the system is running more frequently. If it’s connected to your AC, it serves as the backup heating source in case your main source fails.
Why is a ductless hybrid HVAC system so efficient?
Ductless hybrid crossovers use what’s called “inverter technology” (which is deployed by ductless systems) to reach the intended comfortable temperature more quickly than conventional, single-stage compressor systems—and remain steady without your air temperature fluctuating too hot or cold. There is less wear and tear on the system and inverter technology also provides a comfortable airflow and distribution throughout the entire space.
